Mediumship is defined as the practice of a person to act as a mediator to enable communication between spirits living and deceased. Richard is an experienced clairsentient psychic medium.

NOTE: Clairsentience or "clear sensing", is the ability to receive an impression of what a spirit wants to communicate, or to feel sensations instilled by a spirit.

Since March 2011, due to his interest in the potential of Physical mediumship to provide objective evidence of continuing life after physical death, Richard has been sitting regularly as an experiment within the Lodge. He does not self-hypnotise through meditation nor medication before sitting. He in fact makes a conscious and informed decision to invite spontaneous communication from those within the spirit world and allows them to manipulate his physical body in order to best present their own familiar posture and stance. Richard does not necessarily believe that this (communication with the dead) is the correct explanation of what occurs however, as he considers this theory to be unproven. This is because no witness has yet recognised the presentation of a deceased relative or friend during the demonstrations.

During the current stage of this experiment (January 2012) various personalities, quite unlike that of the medium, are becoming regularly demonstrated in a stable manner. We feel it to be only a matter of time before someone's relative or friend will be presented.

In July 2011 we began to film some of the seances as a means of validating the presentations being regularly displayed. To date sitters recognise no fewer than 8 familiar defined personalities...with more appearing as time goes on. This either means that Richard is an excellent actor and could be earning good money professionally...or that something else is going on...

During January and February 2012 transfiguration phenomena became presented. This takes the form of what appears as a 'fizzing' energy mass which lightly overshadows Richard's face. Within this energy mass other faces become seen. This phenomena has been spontaneously noticed and mentioned by four independent witnesses. Report from one witness:

"I’m still finding it difficult to find the words to adequately describe the sense of enormous power/energy that comes with a sitting with Richard! In fact I don’t think I can really! His spirit team are able to walk him out of the cabinet and have him ‘perform’ energetic, complex and continuously long dances/movements, perfectly in time to the music being played – it really is incredible to watch. These ‘dances’ ranged from Native American ritualistic dances, to dainty ballet dances.

Not only are they able to do this, but the spirit team are ‘effecting’ transfiguration over his face also, and from the start of the séance, I was able to see the faces of the people moving around in the Lodge. It was difficult to make out fine features as he was moving, but the energy around his face was unmistakable, and on occasion, it seemed Richards head turned within a ‘bubble’ of energy surrounding him.

Of the faces I actually recognised! Well, ha ha! Blimey! I saw my paternal Grandfather VERY clearly at one point when Richard was seated (he wasn’t ever seated for very long!), and I also clearly saw the profile of Freddie Mercury on at least two occasions as his ‘dance’ began. I also saw Clyde’s face, which was obviously rather special!

But what happened at the very end of the séance was something else entirely! Richard was seated, and I noticed the room had become very misty/foggy. Then I became aware of myself being absolutely transfixed on Richards face. I couldn’t, and didn’t want to turn away from him. I felt absolutely drawn to him.

Then I realised I was looking through what appeared to be like a tunnel through the ‘fog’ that connected me to Richard and I felt like I was being pulled forward towards him. And then it went completely mental, as one by one, I recognised relative, after relative, crystal clear in front of me - first my paternal Grandfather again, followed by Clyde, then my two Nan’s, then my Great Nan. It didn’t stop. It was like a 3D slide show of my entire family, and it was mind blowing!" Syann

Clearly there is development occuring that is leading Richard forward towards further presentations. Although the Bristol Spirit Lodge value Syann's report and consider her experience to be genuinely objective we are unable to refer to her report as being evidential as only she saw the faces she describes. Another report:

"At one point Richard was seated in the open cabinet with transfiguration taking place...and I suddenly realised that the presented appearence was of William! William is one of Richard's spirit team workers...and very recently Rachael, who is one of the sitters in his group, has sketched a drawing of her impression of him. When I saw the transfigured face and recognised it as William it was because the face was the same as I'd seen sketched by Rachael! This was Amazing! " Chris

This report too offers personal validation of transfiguration. Richard himself needs to know when and if the evidence becomes validated. This requires for several witnesses to be absolutely assured that they are all seeing the same thing at the same time and for presented faces to be recognised by all. A little more time is needed...

For those following the Lodge project and Richard's developmental progress within the Intent to develop and demonstrate Physical mediumship it may be of interest to know that his spirit team are now also attempting to alter his voice. They wish not only to present visually, but to also speak with recognised voices.

Voice trials are in the early stages of development. This is one sample of the sounds currently becoming produced:

It is hoped at some point in the future that sitters and guests will be enabled to not only visually recognise characteristics of deceased relatives and friends but also to recognise their voices.

That's what Physical mediumship (as against physical phenomena) is all about and it is the purpose for the Bristol Spirit Lodge being founded.

Meanwhile...whether the objective becomes met is not important right now. It is the journey that is of interest. Right now the filming is fun and many smiles are being shared.

Red light conditions.

This was Paul’s (my partner) first sitting in a well developed physical circle.

The Spirit Harmony Circle is an unusual introduction into physical mediumship. Richard’s mediumship breaks many preconceived notions of how a circle should be conducted. Firstly, the medium rarely stays in the cabinet; he gyrates around the room and sometimes lies on the floor with his head next to a sitter’s foot! Secondly, the spirits appear to be having quite a party with the medium’s body and laugh at themselves and each other whilst trying an array of groovy moves to the music.

Music is an important part of many circles but is especially so for Spirit Harmony. The name of the circle is apt but was actually chosen by Christine before the strong link to music ever became apparent.

Christine likes to include ‘surprise’ tracks to the CD so that it is evident that Richard cannot practice the dance moves. Richard told us before the séance that he has never had much interest in music or dancing and cannot really understand why his spirit team have chosen this, and also sometimes singing, as their form of communication through him.

Richard is nearing 50 and stocky in build. He is certainly not most people’s idea of a dancer and yet he is lunged around the room in time to lively tracks by many different spirit people.

Richard, whilst in a spirit-controlled 'mid-level' trance condition tapped danced extremely well. He also skipped about like a ballerina, waltzed - with the help of ‘William’- made me laugh until I cried by doing a pelvic thrusting, moon walking, elastic limbed version of Michael Jackson – Scottish and Irish folk dances and my very favourite….The Chief’s native American dance complete with grunts and chants.

At times members of the spirit team appeared to be dancing different dances at the same time using a limb each. Added to this his Spirit Guide, Ted, who had control of Richard’s head, was looking down at the medium’s body and laughing until he choked!

In contrast, ‘Winston Churchill’ appeared to pay a visit. He arrived and stood Richard in a proud stance, chest out, hand on hip, whilst ‘smoking’ a cigar during the songs from Vera Lynne on the CD. Richard’s voice became gruffer and a few words and sounds were spoken and grumbled. At this time Paul and I felt a cold breeze across our faces. It wafted and lingered for several seconds.

Several times during the séance Richard came out of trance whilst falling to the floor, crouching or swinging his arms around. These moments were mostly fleeting as he said ‘hello’ and then was taken over again into another dance routine. At one point Richard was trying to get back into the cabinet chair but his foot was ‘stuck’ as if with glue to the floor. When he finally managed to loosen it he skipped lightly on tip toes back and forth before being his spirit team finally allowed him to sit down!

The team did not want to leave. The closing music played and they left it until the very last song to finally leave. Even when Richard was seated again they waved his hands in circular motion until departing and leaving Richard tired and sweating but unscathed.

Richard takes it all in his stride…if you’ll excuse the pun…He later explained, over tea and cake that he was a ‘mental’ medium- clairvoyant and clairsentient for 30 years before sitting at the Lodge out of curiosity. Six months later he sat in the cabinet and found that he started to go ‘woolly headed’ and was compelled to start to move his legs and hands.

A first he would only sit in the chair and ‘dance’ but over the last few months, less than a year since he began, he has been manipulated to stand and dance. In the last few weeks Richard has also started to show his team through transfiguration; an energy based phenomena which he and Christine are keen to encourage to become more clearly developed on a 1:1 basis to begin with.

At present the sitters witness a layer of energy which, to me, looks as if it surrounds the areas of exposed skin. It consists of a fluid, clear/whitish haze. It is not wholly constant or stable but is very like the energy that builds up prior and during transfiguration. Paul and Chris are able to see the energy expanding and contracting all around him.

Richard is moving constantly so the energy seems not to have time to catch up and form into anything recognisable. Christine wants to create a more intimate, calmer environment, where the spirits can work on communicating facially and verbally, whilst keeping the Tuesday night circles full of action. Blending the two together will take some work but will be worth all the effort.

I’m looking forward to the future development of this medium. We’ll soon be watching him dance whilst wearing transfigured faces to complete the picture!
